JAHEIM Discussion

Conspiracy Thought About B.E.T.

(20100826T150619Z )

So yall know how we felt about Jaheim not being a part of the BET Awards this year. Especially not doing the Teddy P tribute.

We talked about El DeBarge resurfacing and performing on the show. Well, how about he will be touring with Mary J Bleige. Ummmmmmmmm  Does BET pick & choose who performs? Do artist pay to perform? Does the label pay to play?

(Let me stop there so I can hear your thoughts)

I agree with both of you.
@MatureOne you said it at the end: "Jah definitely has the talent to survive without BET."

@Sunshine... when you said "R&B is the foundation of BET, and they should not lose sight of that", this is so true. MONEY does change people's attitudes & way of thinking.

Matureone is right. I believe BET takes full control of who performs. They do in fact cater to the younger generation who are into hip hop & rap. I feel that BET needs to broaden their spectrum & honor all artists that deserve recognition & not be biased with regard to age.

R&B is the foundation of BET, and they should not lose sight of that. Jahiem, in my view, is one of the few true R&B artists out there today. The man can out sing any youngsta. BET has an obligation to keep R&B alive & strong. With that said, they need to give Jaheim the recognition he has earned & deserves.

No doubt, he should have done the tribute to Teddy P. He would have left all of us in awe with his velvet voice, and left the BET execs with SMH (@ their self).

Still pondering on El DeBarge & Mary J. tour....

Interesting discussion. BET caters to a certain audience. I don't think artist pay to perform but I do think that certain artists throw their weight around on who performs. I read somewhere that during the Rihanna/Chris Brown incident JayZ refused to perform that year if Chris Brown was permitted to present or perform. JayZ performed; Chris Brown didn't.

As for Jaheim, I think that BET doesn't really get the value of his music now because of who they cater to -- more hip hop/rap than R&B. He won a BET award with one of the Ghetto CD's. I think he is too grown and sexy for them now.

Remember Maxwell surfaced two years ago on BET for the Al Green tribute. His CD came out and broke all types of records for sales. He didn't win best R&B artist this year (I can't remember who won but I remember turning the tv off and cussing). Jaheim has toured with Mary J. (about five years ago). I like that he has a few dates booked with Monica (her CD is booming now). Jah definitely has the talent to survive without BET.
